Sieve together the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl. Cut the butter up into cubes and add to the flour. (The colder the butter the better). Rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips to prevent the butter getting too warm.
When mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs mix in the sugar and finally stir in the milk, slowly until it forms a dough which is neither too dry or too moist. Although recipe calls for 150ml milk do not feel you need to use it all. The dough needs to be able to be rolled out gently with minimal touch.
Once dough is rolled into a circle which is about an inch thick, cut into 8 pie like portions. Place all the portions on a baking tray, spread apart allowing room for expansion. Put into a preheated oven of 210°C/190°Fan/ Gas Mark 5 for 15 - 20 mins until risen and golden. Glaze finished scones with sugar syrup glaze.
